FINANCIAL INVESTIGATION — CREDITWORTHINESS
Know who you are dealing with before accepting the financial risk
A new client, business partner or other party asks for your money, goods or trust. The opportunity may look attractive, yet uncertainty about their financial background can make the decision difficult. Before agreeing, you want to know whether the information is accurate and which risk indicators exist.
Dutch Detective Agency investigates the creditworthiness and financial background of companies and individuals. We combine available financial, corporate and background information and present relevant connections and points of concern in a clear report.
The findings help you decide whether to proceed and which payment terms or additional safeguards may be appropriate.

What is a creditworthiness investigation?
A creditworthiness investigation identifies information relevant to the ability of a company or individual to meet financial obligations. Depending on the circumstances, it may provide insight into financial developments, business activities, insolvency, income or asset indicators and other relevant matters.
The investigation helps you assess risk before providing money, goods, services or another form of value.
Reduce financial risk before a problem arises
Financial problems often become visible only after goods have been supplied, work has been completed or money has been made available. An investigation may be valuable before you, for example:
- supply goods or services on credit, or accept a substantial assignment;
- agree to deferred payment, a loan or an advance;
- make an investment or enter into a business relationship;
- enter into a rental, lease or guarantee agreement;
- enter into an international agreement;
- entrust a substantial financial interest to an unfamiliar party.
Investigating the creditworthiness of companies and individuals
An active company registration or professional website does not automatically provide sufficient information about the financial position of a business. Depending on the assignment, the investigation may provide insight into the identity and history of the company, directors, ownership and corporate structures, connected companies, available financial information and filed statements, insolvency or bankruptcy, notable changes of directors or address, and inconsistencies between supplied and researched information.
An agreement with an individual may also involve substantial financial exposure, for example a loan, rental obligation, guarantee or investment. Where there is a specific and legitimate reason, the investigation may examine confirmation of identity, employment and income information, business activities and directorships, insolvency or debt-related matters, relevant asset indicators, and the verifiability of supplied documents.
Which financial risk indicators may become visible?
The information that can be investigated depends on the purpose, legal basis, available identifiers and circumstances of the assignment. Following a confidential assessment, we explain which options are available in your situation.
An investigation may identify matters such as insolvency or debt restructuring, several companies established or dissolved within short periods, missing financial publications, an adverse development in available figures, frequent changes of directors or address, inconsistencies in stated information, or notable changes shortly before an important transaction. A single indicator does not always provide a complete picture: its significance depends on the combination, date and context of the findings. We therefore look beyond a single registration or number, checking whether records concern the same party, whether information is current and consistent, and whether statements correspond with verifiable information.
How the creditworthiness investigation works
1. Explain the financial decision
You explain the agreement, transaction, relationship or financial obligation and the risk you need to assess.
2. We assess the investigative options
We check the available identifiers and determine which information is relevant, necessary and lawfully researchable.
3. Receive an investigation proposal
We explain which areas may be investigated and whether additional information is required. You receive advance information about the approach, expected completion time and costs.
4. The investigation is conducted
We investigate the agreed financial, corporate and background information. Findings are checked, compared and placed in the correct context.
5. Receive the report
The report clearly distinguishes between confirmed information, financial risk indicators, relevant connections, inconsistencies and information that could not be sufficiently verified.
Reporting that supports your decision
Depending on the assignment, the report includes identification of the person or company, relevant company and background information, available financial information, business activities and connections, income or asset indicators, insolvency-related indicators, inconsistencies identified, sources used and investigation dates, information that could not be sufficiently verified, and limitations affecting the investigation.
The report supports your business decision; it is not an automatic acceptance or rejection of the investigated party. Not every investigative method is described on the public website, to protect the care and effectiveness of our work. During the initial assessment we discuss which information you need, why it is relevant, which identifiers are available and which investigative options apply to your situation.
International work and related investigations
Financial risks do not stop at the Dutch border. For each country we assess which reliable and lawfully accessible information is available; the options differ per country and you receive advance information about feasibility.
A creditworthiness investigation is carried out before you accept a financial risk. Where an invoice or loan already remains unpaid, an asset or recovery investigation is usually the better fit. Company screening examines a business more broadly, while this investigation focuses specifically on financial background and payment risk.
Do you need to understand the financial risk before proceeding?
Send us the name of the company or individual, the country involved and a brief description of the agreement or transaction. We confidentially assess which financial and business information can be investigated in your situation, and you first receive clear information about feasibility, approach, completion time and costs. Dutch Detective Agency operates in accordance with applicable law and the privacy code of conduct for private investigation agencies.
Available by telephone and digital channels 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Use this form only for a brief description. Sensitive financial or personal documents can be supplied through an appropriate secure method after the initial assessment.
Frequently asked questions about creditworthiness investigations
- Which information can be investigated?
- This depends on the purpose, legal basis, available identifiers, the person or company involved and the country involved. Following a confidential assessment, we explain which financial, corporate and background information can be investigated.
- Can the creditworthiness of companies, individuals and foreign parties all be investigated?
- Yes. Company investigations may focus on financial information, corporate history and business connections, while for individuals we first assess which information is necessary and lawfully researchable. Foreign companies and individuals can also be investigated: we assess per country which reliable and lawfully accessible information is available.
- Can current finances, income, debts or assets form part of the investigation?
- Depending on the available information, current financial indicators may form part of the investigation. Where there is a specific and legitimate reason, we confidentially assess which further options are available. The report clearly states which information was confirmed and which limitations apply.
- When is an asset investigation more appropriate than a creditworthiness investigation?
- A creditworthiness investigation is conducted before accepting a financial risk. An asset investigation is generally more appropriate when an unpaid claim already exists and you need to identify possible recovery opportunities.
- How long does a creditworthiness investigation take and what does it cost?
- This depends on the question, the number of people or companies, the country, available identifiers and required depth. After the initial assessment you receive a clear proposal with an estimated completion time and cost.
