If you are instructing a Dutch investigator from abroad, the rules are probably not the ones you know. These notes explain what may be established here, what may not, and how reports are written so they hold up.
Private investigation is permitted where there is a legitimate interest, the method is proportionate to that interest, and no lighter alternative is available (subsidiarity). We test those three questions at first contact and record the outcome in the plan of action.
A usable report states only what was factually observed, with date, time and place, and no interpretation. Photographs support those observations. The absence of conclusions is precisely what makes it reliable in a case file.
Maintenance can end where a former spouse lives with a new partner as if married. We establish factual conduct over a period of time; your lawyer assesses whether that meets the legal threshold. We never guarantee an outcome.
Investigation processes personal data and falls under the GDPR and the Dutch privacy code of conduct for private investigation agencies. We collect no more than necessary, retain no longer than necessary and process no medical data.
No entry into homes or closed premises, no hacking of phones or computers, no obtaining of banking or medical records, no access to police systems, and no deception beyond what the code of conduct allows. An agency offering these puts your case at risk.
Surveillance costs EUR 90 per hour excluding VAT, with a minimum booking of three hours. For other tailored work, you receive a written plan with a cost framework and payment terms in the quotation or engagement confirmation.
